Dear Ms. Laporte:
Your advertisement for an archaeologist, closing on 27 March 2008 on www.usajobs.com greatly interests me. With my anthropology training and military experience, I believe I could make a valuable contribution to the Army Corps of Engineers.
Because you seek an archaeologist with proven ability, a report submitted by me won third place at the American Anthropological Association meeting in Tampa, Florida last year. I have over ten years experience traveling with the military to an array of locations, from friendly to hostile. While activated in the U.S. Army, extensive training and traveling was something I loved to do. Helping to provide ethnographic support for Generals and Ambassadors while deployed to foreign countries was relevant to the success of the mission.
In addition to developing reports and proposals at the University of South Florida, I have gained interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills. As a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, I have set up many meetings with staff officers, elaborating on the culture of the citizens of the country we were deployed to. I am currently achieving my bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, as well as a minor in English, and I have taken many speaking, writing and computer courses.
Many great things were mentioned about the Army Corps of Engineers by other government organization. I would like to discuss my qualifications with you and answer any questions you have about my enclosed résumé. Please contact me at (727) 510-1918 to arrange an interview. I look forward to putting my skills to work for the Army Corps of Engineers.
Sincerely,
Dennis Harris
